Subject Intent

Design and Food Technology is the subject where children are provided with knowledge and skills for life. They gain rich, hands on experiences to design, plan, make and evaluate the making of products and food.  Health and nutrition are essential to living and caring for each other and our families and children learn how to prepare and cook food with consideration to costs and sustainability.  Opportunities are provided for children to develop and apply their practical knowledge and skills when designing, producing and evaluating products with the technical knowledge which they are taught.  We want our children to begin to explore DT from an early age and this is illustrated in our Early Years where children have their own woodwork bench and station, a range of tools and materials to begin construction.
